Competitive Teams Tryouts

Is your athlete ready for a bigger challenge?

The EMSSC Competitive soccer program is focused on helping aspiring competitive athletes with relevant skills.

The Competitive program requires a higher level of skill and commitment from both players and parents.

Tryouts are held in June for those interested in playing for the Competitive program beginning the following fall.

All existing and interested participants must try out each year.

2026 Tryout Information

To maintain alignment with national soccer organizations, EMSSC is adopting the new age group division cut-offs mandated by USYS and the IYSA. This change to an August 1st – July 31st birth range will lead to some team restructuring for the upcoming season. We ask for your patience and flexibility as we navigate these updates, and you can find more details on our dedicated webpage for this topic.

Tryout Registration

There is a $25 fee for tryouts. The fee will be applied towards your registration fee if and when the player is rostered to a team. If the player is not rostered, the fee will be refunded.

All players must be registered online for tryouts prior to their tryout date. On-site registration is also available; a parent must be present at drop off.

Tryout Criteria

During the tryouts, players will be evaluated on many aspects of the game including technical and tactical situations.  The DOC Staff, with feedback from the head coaches, will evaluate the players. Teams will be formed after all evaluations are completed.

The criteria for player selection may will include the following:

  1. Proficiency demonstrated in soccer
  2. Physical fitness level, which includes both endurance and stamina
  3. Potential for development and coach-ability
  4. Comprehension and knowledge of the game
  5. Character traits such as honesty, sportsmanship, and resilience

Roster size and teams could be a factor in player selection as well.
